Today, 04 February 2021, is World Cancer Day. It is a day to raise cancer awareness and encourage its prevention, detection, and treatment. Cancer is one of the leading causes of death globally, and the number of cancer cases is increasing each year.

Today, let's look at some of the facts about cancer as stated by the World Health Organization

Facts about Cancer

  1. Cancer is the 2nd leading cause of death globally
  2. In 2020, the number of cancer cases reached over 19 million, with 9.9 million deaths.
  3. Tobacco use is one of the leading causes of cancer and is responsible for approximately 22% of cancer death.
  4. The most common types of cancer are
    • Lung
    • Breast
    • Colorectal
    • Prostate
    • Skin cancer
    • Stomach
  5. Some of the most common cause for cancers are due to behavioral and dietary risks, which include
  • high body mass index
  • low fruit and vegetable intake
  • lack of physical activity
  • tobacco use
  • and alcohol use 

Health is precious, so let's keep ourselves healthy by leading a good habit in life, eat healthy foods, and avoid tobacco, alcohol, and other harmful substances. Let's use this day to spread awareness of cancer's danger and what we can do to prevent it.
