Jakarta International College

Dear JIC Family,

Today, we are going to talk about one of our lecturer’s professional accomplishments. We are proud to announce that one of our faculty members, Rubén García Berasategui, has been listed as a collaborator on the cover page of the book Mathematica Beyond Mathematics: The Wolfram Language in the Real World, 2nd edition, published by one of the most prestigious publishers worldwide, CRC Press, part the Taylor & Francis group.

Mr. Ruben not only did the translation from the original Spanish version but also contributed significantly to the text and examples of the chapters covering economics, finance, machine learning, and probability and statistics, among others. We had a chat with him, and he told us that getting involved in writing a book like this is mostly a labor of love since you spend a huge amount of time getting the book ready, and monetarily is not very rewarding. The main reason why he did it was because he fell in love with Wolfram Mathematica while finishing his MBA studies in Berkeley, California, back in 1997.

He has been using the program ever since not only for teaching but also for exploring exciting topics such as crypto, risk management or data science. Mr. Ruben also became the first Wolfram-certified instructor in Southeast Asia in 2012.

For those of you wondering, Mathematica is a software system for technical computations and visualizations created by Stephen Wolfram in 1988. The program uses the Wolfram language, a proprietary, general high-level multi-paradigm programming language, to perform all the tasks.

Here at JIC, we always take pride in the quality of our lecturers, and Mr. Ruben is one of them. It is an honor for us to work with him, and we are grateful for his contributions to JIC.

For those of you who are passionate about programming and would like to learn more about the Wolfram Language, you are more than welcome to come to JIC. Our staff and lecturers would be happy to see you and share insights not only about Mathematica and the Wolfram Language but also about the best university pathways to make your IT-related dreams a reality.

Thank you, and see you at JIC soon.
